attractive, antique cover, for a shaving Cream jar which is commonly referred to as a "pot lid" in collecting circles

As you can see from the transfer print on the lid face, this lid was produced for

Glenn & Co., PHILADELPHIA
"
. I have dated this item to
1860-70
because the son of the founder (Glenn)closed this family business in
1871
. Now, of course, there was usually some overlapping with the new owners of the business using the former owner's product stock, but we cannot be certain of that.
So, this item may well have been used in the
Civil War years
!
