Description
Antique liquor store advertising OOAK original artwork..Luyties Bros was a prominent wine and liquor seller started in the mid 1800’s in NYC by two immigrant brothers from Germany. Their cellars were originally located under the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge, the caverns were their wine was stored still exists today. In 1882 the company moved to new premises on Prince Street and Broadway. This piece is the original artwork announcing their relocation to Prince Street and Broadway.
The item up for auction was created by Caughlan & Berry an engraver in NYC. This piece is an original artwork proof for the Luyties Bros relocation announcement. What is astounding about this is the fact that it was entirely hand drawn with pen and ink and actual old fashioned drafting tools. In our computerized age, this type of advertising art has all but disappeared.
The piece was produced by Caughlan & Berry and given to Luyties Bros for approval. It is the original artwork from which the engraving was made.
This is a unique and rare piece of liquor advertising ephemera. Discovered at an estate sale of an antiques dealer. It is in remarkably excellent condition given its age of 140 years. Please see the detailed photos for condition and size.
