Antique PHILADELPHIA.Unlisted in Jackson!..RARE PURPLE Bazin Shaving Jar pot lid

On offer here is an
antique, under-the-glaze-transfer-advertised,
PHILADELPHIA
Shaving Cream Jar or "pot lid
"
This is a
PRETTY RARE lid
. One hardly ever sees this color, in this pattern, come to auction. It is
NOT LISTED
in this color in Jackson's reference book
of American Pot lids! It dates, by my estimation, to about
1870's
and was, as you can see, commissioned by the famous retailer of the day,
Xavier Bazin of Philadelphia
. The lid measures about 3 3/4" in diameter and stands about 1 3/4" tall when the lid is seated on top of the base section. (see size comparison with a

in the last pic!)
