Steven Main's work in glass reflects his interest in the patterns found in nature. He begins each piece by laying out hand-pulled glass rods
in a mosaic-like pattern. These are placed onto a sheet of steel, which is heated so that the cane design can be brought closer to the temperature of the glass on the blowpipe. Main then rolls the blowpipe across the hot steel, picking up the design onto a core of colored glass. After several layers of clear glass are gathered from the furnace, he blows out and forms the piece into its final shape.

This item is from a large collection we recently inherited. The collection was together for 30 to 40 years. The
pieces
in this collection were used and therefore there may be a few wear marks on the piece or wax residue still on the items that held candles. We have done our best to clean each piece as best as possible, but these were used. If there are any flaws or damage to the piece, it will be clearly noted under condition, otherwise they are in excellent condition.
